RASA Statement in Support of Professor Oleg Itskhoki
RASA expresses its strong support for its member, the distinguished economist Oleg Itskhoki, Professor at Harvard University, in connection with the decision of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation to include him in the registry of “foreign agents.”
Professor Itskhoki is a leading expert in international trade and macroeconomics, a rising star in global economic science, and a source of pride for the Russian-speaking scholarly community. His academic achievements have received international recognition, and his contributions to the development of economic theory are invaluable for understanding current global processes.
Professor Itskhoki is also an outstanding popularizer of economic science, which is especially important for Russian-speaking audiences. His work promotes economic literacy and the development of scientific thinking.
We firmly believe that labeling Professor Itskhoki a “foreign agent” causes serious harm to Russia’s future, alienates talented scholars, and undermines the country’s reputation among the international academic community.
We are confident that this shameful designation will be rejected by history. Future generations of Russians will undoubtedly take pride in their outstanding compatriot, whose scientific achievements will remain an integral part of the global intellectual legacy.
RASA calls for a reconsideration of this decision and a return to the principles of respect for academic freedom and scientific accomplishment.
