The Remarkable Life of Lyuba Varticovski | A new interview for the RASA Historical Project
The RASA YouTube channel now features a conversation about the life of Lyuba Varticovski, one of the founders of the American Russian-speaking Medical Association (RAMA), the predecessor of RASA. She was born in Siberia to a family of Gulag prisoners, intellectuals from Romania. Her life journey was marked by incredible adventures. From a childhood passion for biology and medicine to her departure from the USSR for Colombia in the 1960s, to a rebellion for the sake of science, and to relocating to the United States. Telling us about her scientific and medical career, Lyuba shares her deep connection to Russian culture, her insights into the unique characteristics of the Russian-speaking medical community in America, and her experiences of collaboration with Russian scientists before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
